Carotino cooking oil (Cholesterol free)

Carotino oil is a vegetable oil derived from the red palm fruit (Elaeis guineensis). It is known for its vibrant orange-red color, which comes from the high concentration of beta-carotene and other carotenoids present in the fruit.

Carotino oil is a versatile cooking oil that is commonly used in various culinary applications. It has a mild, neutral flavor and a high smoke point, making it suitable for frying, sautéing, baking, and other cooking methods. It is often used as a healthier alternative to traditional cooking oils due to its nutritional profile.

  • Nutritional content: Carotino oil contains a range of beneficial nutrients, including vitamin E, beta-carotene, and other carotenoids. These antioxidants contribute to its vibrant color and offer potential health benefits.

  • Heart-healthy properties: Carotino oil is rich in unsaturated fats, including both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These types of fats are considered heart-healthy and can help lower bad cholesterol levels when consumed as part of a balanced diet.

  • Antioxidant properties: The high concentration of carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, lycopene, and alpha-carotene, in carotino oil provides antioxidant benefits. Antioxidants help protect the body's cells from damage caused by harmful free radicals.

  • Cooking versatility: Carotino oil's neutral flavor and high smoke point make it suitable for various cooking methods, including frying, sautéing, stir-frying, and baking. It can be used as a substitute for other cooking oils in a wide range of recipes.

  • Natural colorant: The vibrant orange-red color of carotino oil can be used to add a natural hue to dishes and baked goods, enhancing their visual appeal.

'Black hot sauce is a cultural necessity and you can taste our culture when that thing hits your tongue." -Hajia, Labadi- Ghana

Last year's December, we visited home, Ghana and we couldn't resist talking to some incredible food vendors who inculcate the black hot sauce in their food. It was an interesting experience as we had the august opportunity to have them tell us the benefits of black hot sauce and why everyone needs to include it in their diet.

This woman here, has been selling waakye for over a decade an she is well know in Labadi and its environs. Before moving to the USA, she was my Waakye "plug" and I felt my visit to Ghana wouldn't have been complete if I hadn't visited her store to eat waakye. The food still tasted the same and the Shito (black hot sauce) still gave me the "chills"- Rama
